FIND YOUR SIZE
The trousers have a relaxed fit, positioned at lower waist, so use your (lower) waist and seat measurement for sizing.
If you wish to adjust the relaxed waist you can choose to add more or less elastic tape. Just remember that the waist has to be wide enough to be pulled over your seat when putting the trousers on.
You can easily shorten or lengthen the pattern, make the adjustment at knee height.

A trousers for all occasions!
I thought that this pattern will be very easy too make - no buttons, no buttonholes :) but fitting was challenging for me. According to a size chart I picked up M size - and the trousers was too big. So I decided to downsize and pick up S size. And it was a good decision! But next time I will make legs a little bit longer (c.a. 10 cm). I used denim fabric with some elasticity and it was a great choice :) so I strongly recommend this pattern but fit the pattern first.
Sizing and cuffs/ waistband
The sewing instructions are easy to follow and clear. However the waistband and the cuffs gave me some headache. I was not able to stretch the elastic far enough to match the widths of the waist as well as of the legs. And to stretch and keep fabric and elastic aligned while sewing is not easy. I ended up gathering the waist and the seam of the legs to match them with the stretched elastic. Overall fit- the trousers are roomy , according to the measurements I am size medium, after slipping them in I think size s would be sufficient. Unfortunately with the sewn on elastics it is not very easy to size it down - at least around the waist. Or do you have any ideas? Also how to stretch and sew at the same time and still have everything aligned properly? A video would be great. Other than that I like the trousers- next time I will try a small - and maybe think of a different elastic solution
LOVE these trousers but initial fitting is tricky.
I'm so in love with these pants it's ridiculous but I struggled with sizing. My measurements put me between the large and XL and I went with the LX and made them in a soft flannel that looks like tweed. They were FAR too large. I removed 2 full inches of ease on each side and they are still baggy. Fortunately the way they are designed, I could just remove the waistband and cuffs, take in the seam allowance on each side and they fit well and there was still plenty of room to get my hands in the pockets. So before I made my next pair, I ordered the large size pattern and made a muslin. The large was a bit snug so I added about 1/2 inch on each side through the hips and thighs and they were perfect. But that is an enormous size difference between the L and XL. I'm actually using both patterns - the cut down XL is still a bit oversize and the L is more sleek and I like both looks. All of this to say it's worth it to take an extra 15 minutes make a muslin just with the main pieces to check the fit before cutting into your nice fabric. But I love these pants and so far have made 3 pair with 2 more cut out and ready to sew. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow as is typical for TAL patterns.
The instructions are clear and easy to follow, only one time it doesn’t mention to overlock. The pdf is not layered, the lines are very bold. Exact cutting is challenging. At 19 € a pop I expect more. - 1 star here. I worried sewing the elastic to the waistband/cuffs would be difficult. But it was way easier than I thought. The sewn-on elastic comes with disadvantages. Maybe I‘m simply not a slip-on pants person. I made a sample in an inexpensive fabric and I‘m glad I did. My measurements are spot-on size M. But the resulting pants feel like they slip down over my butt any minute. Due to the sewn-on elastic it is impossible to shorten the elastic once the garment is finished. - 2nd star here. It is not flattering, at least not for me.
The Assembly Line Shop
Hi Karin, many thanks for leaving a review! The pattern is layered and you may find more information on how to show/print only the size/s you wish for in our FAQ: https://theassemblylineshop.com/apps/help-center#hc-how-do-i-print-separate-sizes-on-layered-pdf-sewing-patterns About the comment on the sewn-on-elastic we will add information to the assembly instruction on how to take one's individual body measurement, to help the maker with what elastic band length is needed, before cutting the elastic and attaching it to the waistline. Again, many thanks! Best regards, Anki
