I thought I would love this dress, and it didn't disappoint. I was prepared to do a D-cup full bust adjustment, but after reading reviews that said it wasn't essential I decided to wing it. I might do a very tiny adjustment on future makes, but I agree that the loose fit, a-line cut, and French seams probably make an FBA unnecessary for many people. I sewed a size M based on my measurements, but decided to take the sleeve seams in to a small and to enlarge the neck opening to a large. On future makes I think I'll reduce the size seams to a size small as well. I added length to my dress and like it, but next time I'll hem a few inches above the knee. I also plan to hack the pattern into a top. Overall, a wonderful and versatile pattern!
How I love this dress! I fell like a stylish art teacher when I'm wearing it. I've now made 3 versions, this one in a mid weight wool, one in a denim, and a very light weight cotton lawn for summer days. I was slightly hesitant about buying it as I thought it could look fabulous, it with me being on the larger size (UK size 16), I could look like a sack of potatoes in it. Luckily it's the first!!! Such a fabulous pattern to follow. €19 felt like a lot to spend on a digital pattern, however it's worked out at much better value than lots of paper patterns I've bought and never used.
I love sewing but have big ADHD-related problems with written instructions. I decided to give this pattern a whirl because its "easy" rating and I have to say it delivered. I managed to finish the dress in two sessions and I'm super happy with the result: The steps and the illustrations are very very clear! I used a thin black gabardine with a bit of shine and it's gorgeous. The only thing is that the neckline and this colour makes it look a little like a hairdressing cape... next time I'll try a modification with a V-notch instead of the straight boatneck. It fits perfectly and looks really elegant.
I read the instruction twice, before cutting the fabric for my first box pleat dress. Lessons learned: don't get fabric that's too thick (pleat at the back of neckline gets very thick), get a good tutorial for setting in sleeves. I watched the tutorial from Instagram @seamstoanend, simple and works for my second dress (pink pattern), as the sleeve is without "wrinkles". Body size is very generous but I worry about adjusting as I'm not that experienced. I think i may need to size down the body but not the armhole/sleeve. Maybe when I graduate to "experienced" class.
