I love this pattern!
As with all the TAL patterns, this one is so well made and a joy to sew with. This parka has been on my list for a while and I would like to make it again in the future. The style is great, the pattern ist wonderfully drafted. I used a dry oilskin which - and this is my only gripe - is still rather stiff. I know this will change in time, but it has been a little bit of a struggle getting it under the sewing machine's foot sometimes, too. It is beautiful fabric, though. Based on my highbust measurement I made a size M with no FBA since it is quite loose. Normal for me, I shortened the sleeves and the "skirt", but did a broad back adjustment. Although I did not broaden it into the neckline I felt that it was too wide (this did not show up in the toile, so it must be due to the stiff fabric). I therefore sewed a small dart into the yoke and made a pleat in the hood once it was finished. After a couple of wears, I realised I wanted a zip which I simply added on top of the existing lines. Now, as it is getting much colder I made a fleece (exact copy but no waist seams) to go inside. I racked my brains as to how to attach it, I didn't want to put more press studs in, velcro was no option, neither opening any seams, when I realised that the fleece just stuck in place on its own. (Just a small loop in the hanger loop.) All in all, a successful work in progress!
This pattren is perfect : well designed, fitts well, the explanations are very clear. I made it form softshell. I would juste like to have an additionnal pattern for a lining for this parka.
Great pattern/urgent question ;-)
It`s my first coat and I truly love the easy-to-make pattern! Sometimes I had to read & check several times but then again: I`m not even native English speaking... Made a sample out of cheap fabric (as I want to line the coat) and everything went perfectly! After finishing the samle I have an urgent question right now: I need a larger hole for the sleeve to make the (lined) coat more comfortable. But: I don`t need a larger/wider sleeve itself! I`ll sew an XS and a XS-sleeve is large enough, i.e. I cannot simply connect a XS body to a S sleeve. There are so many pattern parts connected to the sleeves -- I`ve no solution how to just enlarge the sleeve-hole- Anyone here who can give me recommendation?? Would be great ;-) Best regards, Ingrid

Hi Ingrid, many thanks for the lovely review! I suggest you join the TAL sewing community on Facebook - filled with helpful fellow makers that most likely can give you more detailed advice. https://www.facebook.com/groups/851642995352173 All the best, Anki THE ASSEMBLY LINE
I like everything about this pattern: the style, the finishing techniques, the professional result. I chose a size according to the finished measurements and I cut a small, although I am a medium at the hips. Construction-wise there are a couple of tricky points, but the instructions are excellent, so you should not be deterred from making it. I have made two versions so far: one in corduroy and one in dry oilskin (I lined the second one) and I am extremely happy with how they came out. I will keep making this pattern, it's a classic.
